How to Enrol Enrolment Form Download: Enrolment Form.pdf Enrolment Form.doc 1. Fill in the enrolment form and send it to Gisborne English Language School, PO Box 775 , Gisborne 4040, New Zealand or email to: info@englishgisborne.org.nz or fax 0064 6 8674888. 2. When we accept your enrolment we will send you the following: - a letter offering a place. - an invoice telling you how much you need to pay in fees and how to pay. - information on insurance. 3. Send us $NZ100 Registration fee, plus $NZ600 being 2 weeks in advance. This will secure your place. The balance can be paid on arrival. Our bank account details will be on the bottom of your invoice 4. Your course is for 10 weeks or less, you can study with a Visitor Visa, or possibly with a Working Holiday Visa, depending on your nationality. 5. Arranging your visa. We will pick you up at the Gisborne airport. Conditions of Enrolment 1. Enrolments 1.1 Enrolment is subject to the following conditions and becomes a legal contract on acceptance of a student by Gisborne English Language School (GELS). 1.2 Enrolment is only made when GELS receives the deposit and enrolment fee. 1.3 GELS reserves the right to modify its course arrangements and to alter its specifications and fees without prior notice. 2. Fees 2.1 The balance must be received by GELS the first week your course commences. 2.2 Non-payment or not having proof of payment may result in withholding of services by GELS. 2.3 Course fees are worked out in complete weeks, including weeks with public holidays. Three or more days count as a week. 2.4 In the event of absence or early departure from the course after the first 8 days of the course, no refund is possible. 2.5 Students must pay their own entrance or activity costs for optional class trips and recreational activities held outside class hours. 2.6 Exam fees are an extra cost. 2.7 All tuition fees include the New Zealand Government Goods and Services Tax (GST) - 12.5%. 2.8 Fees cannot be transferred to any other institution or student. 3. Cancellations and refunds 3.1 Cancellations made in writing at least fourteen (14) days before course commencement will result in a full refund of the course fees. However, the registration fee will not be refunded 3.2 Cancellations made in writing less than fourteen (14) days before the course commencement or within the first 8 days of the course will result in a refund of all fees except for 10% of the total fee or NZ$500, whichever is the lesser. 3.3 Refunds on compassionate grounds may be granted at the discretion of the Directors. 3.4 In the event of a course being cancelled by GELS, all unused tuition fees will be refunded. 4. Homestay Accommodation 4.1 Homestay accommodation includes morning and evening meals from Monday to Friday and all meals on weekends and Public Holidays. 4.2 Any requests for cancellations or changes to homestay accommodation must be made to GELS at least 7 days before the cancellation or change. Failure to allow this amount of time may mean an extra payment of 7 days accommodation fee. 4.3 Homestay fees are paid to the provider. 4.4 In arranging homestays GELS acts only as an agent. The student is responsible for providing insurance to cover accident, illness or damage to property which may happen during the student's stay with the host family. 5. Assessment of prospective international students GELS offers courses at all levels, from beginners to advanced, so any standard of competence in English is acceptable. Student levels are assessed by placement tests on their first day. 6. Liability and Insurance Students must have suitable Medical and Travel Insurance during their time in New Zealand. 7. School Hours Morning Classes: 8.30am - 12noon. Monday to Friday Afternoon Classes: 1.00pm - 2.30pm. Monday to Thursday Friday 1.00pm - 3.00pm. Students may join one of the many recreation activities. 8. Change of address Students must inform the school if they change where their living address or contact details, and must inform the school if their home country contact details change. 9. Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students The Gisborne English Language School (GELS) has agreed to observe and be bound by the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students published by the Ministry of Education. Copies of the Code are available on request from this institution or from the New Zealand Ministry of Education website at www.minedu.govt.nz. 10. Immigration : Full details of visa and permit requirements, advice on rights to employment in New Zealand while studying, and reporting requirements are available through the New Zealand Immigration Service, and can be viewed on their website at www.immigration.govt.nz. 11. Eligibility for health services Most international students are not entitled to publicly funded health services while in New Zealand. If you receive medical treatment during your visit, you may be liable for the full costs of that treatment. Full details on entitlements to publicly-funded health services are available through the Ministry of Health, and can be viewed on their website at www.moh.govt.nz. 12. Medical and Travel Insurance International students must have appropriate and current medical and travel insurance while studying in New Zealand 13. GELS Attendance Policy 1. Students arriving late for class will be marked as late on the roll. Lateness is not acceptable as it causes annoyance to both teachers and other students. Students absent from class for personal reasons should tell the School Office. 2. Students must try hard to complete all class and home assignments set by their teachers. 3. Students must not behave in a manner which is disruptive to the school or to the classes. 4. Students should be polite to all other students and to all members of the school staff. 5. Students must not behave in a manner which discriminates against other students or staff because of race, nationality, religion, sex, age, etc. 6. No smoking inside the school buildings. This includes the toilets.
